K Drive

Due to current budget considerations, the School of Nursing (SoN) IT team will begin transitioning department file storage from our current file server to SharePoint by June 2025. SharePoint offers a more cost-effective, secure, and collaborative platform for managing files, and aligns with university-wide IT strategies.

Compare Storage Solution Types  (UW NetID Required)

Q: Who has access to the K drive?

A: Only staff and faculty members within the UW SoN can access the K Drive.

Q: What’s the difference between the K and U drives?

A: The U drive is the UW universal storage network available to all students, faculty, and staff. The K drive is only available to faculty and staff members within the SoN to follow HIPAA and FERPA requirements concerning data.

Q: How do I share files with people outside of the UW SoN? 

A: Please utilize SharePoint to collaborate with others outside of the UW, learn more about SharePoint, and contact the SoN IT Service Desk for further help.

Q: Can I store my personal files on K drive?

A: No. To store personal files, you must use OneDrive for Business.
